Appliance Repair in Edmonton: The Story Behind the Blooming Industry

A recent search for shops that cater to appliance repair in Edmonton turns up nearly 10 million searches online. Why this many shops and are there truly that many people? This is an in-depth look into Edmonton, its thriving economy, and the people that support the repair industry.

Edmonton in itself is a huge land, second only to Calgary. Its metro-covered areas span more than 3600 square miles, with little more than 220 square miles of urban occupation. As a result, more than 3500 people occupy every square mile. It has to date, more than 370 neighborhoods, a result of its expansion due to the amalgamation of neighboring towns and cities in the past.

Affordable housing

At the date of this writing, there are more than one million residents living in Edmonton, with multiracial backgrounds. One reason for this bloom in the population is affordable housing. Actually, the costs of living is slightly higher than most cities but with the high employment rate, it balances everything out quite nicely.

Add to the fact that residents enjoy more than the average household income with less tax (Alberta, the province where Edmonton is, has no provincial tax), it is no wonder that the city attracts a crowd.

As if that doesn’t encourage people, then this fact will. Edmonton enjoys having the lowest rate of gas and fuel in all of Canada.

Great for jobs and Business

Edmonton is a great place for startups and professionals seeking their way in the industry.

The main source of income can be found in the gas industry, but shipping, computer software, and manufacturing are also available.

Plus, the overall human interaction is casual and friendly (probably owing to the multiracial dimension thrown in). As one resident gushingly quote, “Edmonton’s startup community has an openness and a vibrancy that is not there in Calgary.”

In addition, Edmonton hosts research and higher education institutions which are irresistible to couples with young children. Over the years, there has been a mushroom growth of health, technology, agriculture, and tourism. Better medical services are one surefire way to hook residents.

Great for families

Overall, it’s a great place to start a family and an awesome place to live. Its proximity to the northern borders of Canada brings about amazing scenic views, although with extreme weather and climate. Amazingly, however, natural calamities such as earthquakes, tsunamis, or cyclones are practically non-existent. Venomous snakes, spiders, etc are also very rare.

Edmonton pays a premium on its festivals all throughout the year, music halls, and malls. The West Edmonton Mall is the biggest mall in the continent. It’s so big, it has housed a water park, hotel, aquarium, a regular hockey rink, a small golf course, lots of restaurants, food stalls and more than 800 stores.

The crime rate (it just has to be stated) may have some room for improvement, but it has shown a significant decrease over the years.

All of these factors can add up to a typical household possessing at least four appliances that need regular maintenance and repair. With that many people, it is only logical to have that many appliance repair shops in Edmonton. Even with the physical restrictions due to the pandemic, these shops are here to stay.
