5 ways you can INSTANTLY up your Laundry Storage game!

The laundry can often be one of the most neglected rooms in the house, enjoyed for its function not its aesthetics, and is sometimes used as a dumping ground for all things cleaning and washing related. But it doesn’t have to be this way! Your laundry storage can be organised and beautiful just like any other room in your home, and there are some nifty ways of storing laundry items throughout your home if you’re tight on space. Here are some quick, easy tips to achieve laundry storage magic!

Towel ladder

Suitable for use in the laundry or bathroom or both, towel ladders are a great decorative way of reducing how much you have piling up in the linen cupboard. They’re also a great way of keeping your towels dry, and they’re simple to use – no drilling is required, and when you move house they’re easy to take with you. Felt pads will keep the ladder from damaging the walls, with non-slip feet to keep it stable, and they’re so easy to move from room to room as needed. Their function is by no means limited to just towels – use them to hang tomorrow’s outfit, or as an airer to dry your clothes after washing. Use a hook on the side of the towel ladder to hang scarves, hair ties or your peg basket. Towel ladders generally come in a range of colours and materials, so you can find the one that best suits your decor. We love using them in the laundry, but they are so versatile, their usefulness doesn’t end there!

Laundry hamper with seat

Gone are the days of having to deal with laundry baskets overflowing with clothes, looking like an eyesore in the corner of the laundry. There are so many stylish laundry hampers on the market today, with convenient lids to hide away the laundry within. You can purchase modern, chic looking hampers that come with a cushioned lid that can double as a seat, so they’ve got so much potential beyond the laundry, too. A wonderful space saver, rest assured your clothes will be tucked away from eyesight until you’re ready to do the laundry. Alternatively, use it as a decorative, discrete storage spot for toys or extra towels, and place it in other areas of the home and allow it to work as a stool! Talk about multifunctional. They also come in a large design, to act as a cushioned bench with plenty of storage space within. Place the bench in your entryway for a spot for the kids to sit and put on their shoes, and nobody will even know you’ve got things tucked away inside it. A wonderful way of creating more storage around your home if your laundry is on the smaller side.

Shelf for detergents

Have you got dead space above your washing machine, and a huge collection of detergent bottles beneath the sink? Install a shelf (or shelves, if you have the room) above your washing machine, and store your most-used detergents and washing powders there. For a really clean look, find refillable glass jars to fill with the washing powders – extra points if they have decorative labels on the side to remind you what’s inside! You will immediately notice the difference this makes to your laundry routine, with your required washing powders on hand to keep you from having to go digging.

If you don’t have the room for a mounted shelf, or don’t want to attach anything to the wall, consider a free-standing shelving unit. These are just as handy to store washing detergents on, and are usually small and skinny to fit in the smallest of laundries. This is also a great spot for your peg basket to live.

Wall mounted airer

During winter, it can take a long time for your clothes to try on an airer inside – and you probably get sick of having to walk around the thing! To save you from having to constantly fold the airer up and down in various rooms of the house wherever you can tuck it out of the way, consider a wall mounted airer. These helpfully fold down flush when you don’t need it, or you can easily pop it off the wall for next time, and you don’t have to find somewhere to store a big bulky traditional clothes airer. These airers effortlessly increase the amount of clothes you can hang in a tight space, and can even be mounted on a door if preferred. Usually they are extendable and you can generally choose from a few different sizes, depending on how many rails you want.

Pull out ironing board

A truly exciting prospect for many that dread pulling out the big ironing board whenever they need to quickly press a sleeve, this style of ironing board will easily pull out from your cupboard. It’s a wonderful space saver, and usually they are extendable for optimal stability. These handy little ironing boards are user-friendly, and you’ll be grateful for the ability to effortlessly tuck it back away in the cupboard when you’re done!

These are just a few laundry storage tips to get you started, but there are so many great ideas and products out there to help you organise any space of your home.
